Coverage Details and Pricing

What is covered by the different insurance levels, and how much they cost.

Written by Joseph Alvaro

This article explains what is covered, how pricing works, and what guests should do if they need to file a claim.

How Guests Purchase Coverage

Guests who book through your website are offered the option to add trip protection to their reservation at the time of booking. If they choose not to purchase travel insurance at that time, they can optionally be sent travel insurance purchase reminders via email and push notifications (if using the Staylio app) after booking.

The purchase is a separate transaction made directly with Vertical Insure—it does not appear on the Lodgix invoice and does not flow through the property manager's payment gateway. Eligibility requires a trip total between $100 and $20,000 USD.

Coverage Tiers

Vertical Insure typically offers up to three tiers of trip cancellation and interruption coverage. Availability may vary by state, country, and length of stay. For full policy details, terms, and exclusions for each tier, refer to the official Vertical Insure policy documentation at:

Pricing

The premium for each tier is calculated based on a combination of underwriting variables, including the total cost of the trip, the length of the trip, the coverage tier selected, the age of the traveler, the cost of medical coverage in the location of your rental, and the guest's state or country of residence.

Because these factors vary by guest and booking, there is no single fixed price. Approximate premium ranges are:

  • Basic tier: approximately 5–6% of the total trip cost

  • Trip Protection Plus: approximately 7–8% of the total trip cost

  • Cancel for Any Reason: approximately 13–15% of the total trip cost

These are estimates. The exact quote a guest sees at checkout will reflect the specific details of their trip.

How to File a Claim

If a guest needs to file a claim, they do so directly through Vertical Insure. The property manager and Lodgix are not involved in the claims process. Full instructions are available here.

For Property Managers

When a guest purchases a policy, a small icon appears on the reservation in Lodgix. You can view all insured bookings across your account at:

This page shows which guests purchased policies, along with their coverage dates and policy numbers.
