Overview of the template editor interface

Written by Brent Kleinheksel

Lodgix comes preloaded with dozens of templates that can be used to communicate with your guests. This includes both email templates and templates for PDF attachments. You can edit any of these templates as well as add your own custom templates.

The Template Editor can be found from Settings > Saved Replies & PDFs...

Template Editor

  1. HTML / Text Editor: Toggle between the HTML and Text version of the template. To open the Text version, click the document (file-lines) icon on the visual editor; while you are in the plain text view, the Go To HTML button takes you back to the visual editor. Note that these are two completely separate versions of the template and this pertains to email templates only. The HTML version is used for any communication where you have the guests actual email address. The text version of the template is used for any communication through the channels, as they do not allow HTML in their emails.

  2. Message Preview: Preview the email template in desktop and mobile versions.

  3. Text / Widget Editor: Edit the text content or the content of the widget you have added to the editor. Additional settings will display in the right panel when the widget is selected.

  4. Formatting Options: When your cursor is placed anywhere in the text field, a toolbar will display with formatting options.

  5. Merge Tags: Merge tags are used to dynamically insert content into the template. For example you can choose the GUEST FIRST NAME tag to insert the first name of the guest associated with each reservation. You can choose from over 100 tags. Note that you can also place your cursor anywhere in the body of the email and type the "@" sign followed by any text to search from the Merge Tag library. For example you can type "@guest" to view any tags that contain the word "guest"

  6. Examples: These are examples of how the merge tag will look when added to the template. The reservation specific information will be added when the message is sent to the guest, or when the PDF is generated.

Formatting text

All formatting is done visually inside the editor. Click into a text block and use the toolbar that appears. The toolbar gives you the controls you would expect from a word processor:

  • Bold, italics, and text styling, plus font and size, from the formatting toolbar.

  • Text alignment (left, center, right) and indentation for paragraphs and lists.

  • Numbered and bulleted lists. To continue numbering across several lists, or to control where a list's numbering starts, use the Merge Lists button, which combines several numbered lists into one, continuing the numbering in sequence and setting the starting numbers for you.

  • Tables for laying out structured information.

If you have looked for these and concluded they are missing, they are most likely available once a text block is selected. The toolbar only appears while you are editing inside a text block, not when the block is merely highlighted in the layout.

The editor does not include a raw HTML editing surface, so you cannot paste in your own HTML markup, and there is no separate legacy "Email (Responses)" page for that purpose. Importing or pasting from Microsoft Word is also not recommended, because Word brings along hidden markup that does not display correctly in emails. For the best results, type your content directly into the editor and apply formatting with the toolbar.
